Megatron is back!

Director Michael Bay, who’s helmed four films in the blockbuster Transformer series, confirmed the character’s return in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight with a teaser video on Instagram on yesterday (May 31).

It's starting. This week production. Megatron is back. #transformers #decepticons#

“It’s starting. This week production. Megatron is back. #transformers #decepticons,” Bay wrote to accompany the ominous, growling snippet.

The Decipticon leader, a principal nemesis in the Transformers world, was previously teased to return via the Transformers Twitter account over Memorial Day Weekend. With production for the franchise’s fifth installment underway this month, fans are already brainstorming on how Megatron fits into the new plot. Up until now, it was believed that Megatron was officially defeated by Optimus Prime in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Everything is still in it’s early, cryptic stages, but the new flick will definitely star Mark Wahlberg, who is reprising his role of Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lt. Colonel William Lennox and Isabela Moner as the franchises new female lead.

Transformers: The Last Knight is slated to hit theaters this time next year, June 23, 2017.
