The first cast photos from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child may have inspired tears of joy, but the play itself will have fans crying for an entirely different reason — at least according to author J.K. Rowling.

The upcoming play follows the life of Harry and Ginny’s youngest son, Albus Severus, and is set to open on London’s West End for previews in just a few weeks. For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to attend the play in person, we’ll have to settle for getting our hands on a copy of the highly anticipated script-book version of the play (due out on July 31). Regardless of how you plan on experiencing the eight Potter tale however, Rowling all but confirmed the story will make fans misty-eyed.

“If it doesn’t [make you cry], we’ll be checking your vital signs,” promised Rowling via her Twitter account after a fan reached out and asked if Cursed Child would make them cry.

Later, when another fan reacted to Rowling’s revelation, the author perfectly responded to the decision to create a tale that pulls at our heartstrings with, “I’m a writer. If you’re not feeling, I’m not doing it right.”

It sounds as though we’re all in for quite the angsty ride when the time comes to get to know young Albus Severus, but regardless of whether or not we cry through the whole tale, we’re definitely looking forward to joining Harry and the rest of the gang on one more adventure!
