Is there era of female superhero movies finally upon us?
During a recent interview with The Wrap, The Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon revealed he’d be open to helming a Marvel movie about female superheroes — and even offered up a hint as to what kind of tone it would take.
“Yeah, of course,” the director told The Wrap when asked whether he’d want to direct a female-driven Avengers franchise. “Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.”
Though Whedon won’t be behind the camera for Marvel’s Captain Marvel — the company’s first female-led superhero movie, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2019 — the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator did divulge that it was Marvel president Kevin Feige who championed to get the film on the slate.
“Kevin Feige fought a mighty fight to get her on the schedule,” he continued. “So it’s a start. You could say that should be a middle, but it’s a start,” directing his comments at Hollywood as a whole and not Marvel specifically.
If the acclaimed director would be up for hopping over to the DC Comics Universe, we have a suggestion fans may like. The potential all-female superhero film starring Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie could benefit from Whedon’s golden directorial touch!
Then again, Marvel’s often-rumored stand-alone Black Widow movie seems like it would be a perfect fit too.
