Iggy Azalea is embarking on uncharted territory with her upcoming sophomore album, Digital Distortion. The “Fancy” singer may be a pro at writing breakup anthems, but this time around, she’s focusing her attentions on writing a love song.
In a new interview with EW, Azalea revealed that her fiancé Nick Young was not only the inspiration for the track, but he was also the one who motivated her to try her hand at penning a love song in the first place.
“It’s the one song I did that’s lovely because Nick was like, ‘You don’t have any love songs. I don’t exist,’” the rapper told EW.
Despite the fact that love songs are a new frontier for the Aussie rapper, it sounds as though she’s coming around to the idea of spitting verses that showcase her softer side.
“I usually do break-up ‘I hate you songs,’ “ continued Azalea. “But I’m getting married so I can’t write those anymore.”
We’ve still got a few more weeks to go before we can get our hands on Azalea’s follow up to 2014’s The New Classic. For now, fans of the rapper will have to settle for jamming out to Iggy’s latest single, “Team,” which dropped just last month.
Iggy Azalea’s Digital Distortion album is due out on June 24.
