There’s no denying the cast of the Avengers have some major chemistry, so it probably won’t come as a surprise that they have a blast on set together. The reason why filming Captain America: Civil War was such fun, however, might come as a bit of a shock.

Robert Downey Jr. recently sat down with GQ and revealed that working on Civil War was so great because it was such a harrowing experience. According to the actor, who plays Iron Man, memorable experiences that are tough on the body are what make for the fondest memories.

“Part of what makes a movie great is how oppressive the elements are when you’re doing it,” Downey Jr. told GQ’s Zach Baron. “[On Civil War], we happened to be, by our own volition, shooting on what must have been one of the three hottest tarmacs in the history of North America, all suited up, just going, ‘This is crazy! We shouldn’t be outside!’ And there was something so funny about it.”

Laughter is definitely one way to get through less than ideal situations! And considering how well that Team Cap vs. Team Iron Man fight came out on the big screen, it sounds as though a little sweat was definitely worth it!

The magazine also asked Downey Jr. if we’ve seen the last of the Iron Man stand-alone films, and the actor gave a fairly open-ended answer.

“I guess so,” said the actor. “So if you ask what is my relationship to [Tony Stark] now, it’s nostalgic!”

The good news is, Downey Jr. isn’t quite done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. The actor recently signed on to portray Tony Stark in the upcoming stand-alone Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Captain America: Civil War is in theaters now.
