Fans who miss Jon Stewart’s entertaining combination of sophisticated humor and wry political commentary may have reason to celebrate very soon.
While the beloved host of The Daily Show’s post-Comedy Central career has thus far been highlighted by hosting WWE’s SummerSlam and briefly feuding with polarizing WWE Superstar John Cena, Stewart’s four-year production deal with HBO could find the funnyman back in front of the camera in the very near future. During a recent interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter at the Paley Media Center, Richard Plepler, the CEO of HBO, said that Stewart’s upcoming project with the premium cable network could debut before this November’s presidential election.
“I think he’s clamoring at the bit to do something that he knows is going to stand out and be a new part of his artistic expression,” Plepler told Stelter as originally reported by The Wrap. “It is a perfect example of bringing a remarkable, original voice into the house, giving a new opportunity of expression to that original voice and saying, ‘We now have the flexibility to let you paint however you want to.’ He has free rein to do whatever he wants.”
Continued Plepler, “My guess will be that the first months of what he does will be different from the second months of what he does.”
