With Marvel mania sweeping the box office this weekend it should come as no surprise that studio president Kevin Feige is thinking about a number of potential new films to add to the studio’s ever-increasing production slate. With exciting characters like Falcon, War Machine, and Hawkeye without stand-alone films of their own, there are plenty of characters worthy of a featurette — but one that fans have long-wanted to see hit the big-screen solo is Black Widow. Now, it looks like those fans might finally get their wish.

During a recent interview with Deadline, Feige revealed that the studio is “creatively and emotionally” committed to seeing Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow helm her own stand-alone franchise.

“Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow,” Feige told Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. “We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise.”

Since Marvel has already announced the next nine movies they’ll be rolling out through the end of 2019, production on a potential Black Widow film would begin sometime after that date. Thankfully, we have Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, and the Blank Panther film, just to name a few, to satiate even the most diehard Marvel fan until a Black Widow film possibly hits the big screen.
