*** This post contains major spoilers from season 6, episode 3 of Game of Thrones titled “The Oathbreaker.”***
Game of Thrones said goodbye to a long time cast member last night and now, that actor is speaking out about his time on the hit fantasy series.
During Sunday night’s episode titled “The Oathbreaker,” Jon Snow (Kit Harington) finally got his revenge on the Night’s Watch men who turned on him in last year’s finale. Among the men Snow executed was Ser Alliser Thorne, the leader of the rebellion to kill Snow and a former contender for Lord Commander. Portrayed by actor Owen Teale, Ser Alliser Thorne had been a part of Thrones since the very first season — which is a huge feat considering no one is really safe on the series. Speaking to EW about his stint on GOT, Teale said that there were two emotions running through his mind when he first discovered his journey would be coming to an end.
“I felt a great sense of achievement and a sense of loss,” revealed Teale. “Thorne was never an easy guy to be with.”
Teale also spoke about Jon Snow’s big comeback and confessed that he was actually hoping actor Kit Harrington’s character had been killed off for good. Teale’s original take on Snow’s fate may not sit well with some fans, but it turns out, the actor had a very good reason for his stance.
“If you play the card of magic too much then the credibility of the whole thing drops a little. Death is not heartbreaking anymore,” explained Teale. “But then, I was immediately impressed when I realized what they were doing with bringing him back…they’re not just bringing back Jon Snow like he never died. I think they’ve done the right thing, and it’s a farewell for me.”
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO
