There’s no denying that Game of Thrones is full of plot twists, but one that left quite a few fans stunned happened just before the first episode of season 6 ended.
In the final scene of the season 6 premiere, fans watched as a disheartened Melisandre disrobed alone in her room. After she removed her signature ruby necklace, the spell-caster revealed herself to the audience for the first time in her true form: that of a a frail old woman.
While the scene didn’t offer any explanation as to how exactly Melisandre pulls off the facade day in and day out, viewers quickly began theorizing that the necklace was the key to her enchantment. Still, others argued that couldn’t be the case because of a scene last season in which Melisandre wasn’t wearing the necklace but still appeared young. So does the ornate ruby choker actually grant her the power to hide her true appearance?
“Well, yes,” Melisandre actress Carice van Houten told Huffington Post.
There you have it, GOT viewers. We’re sure many fans feel quite vindicated hearing that confirmation from van Houten herself.
How do you think the the big Melisandre reveal will play out as the season progresses?
