When the Power Rangers burst on to the big screen next year, they’ll do so suited up with brand-new gear.
EW has our first look at the flashy new suits the teenagers will be donning as they try to take down the evil Rita Repulsa (Pitch Perfect’s Elizabeth Banks).
’90s kids may remember the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers donning cheesy spandex, but it’s clear these uniforms are far beyond that. Instead, Trini (singer Becky G), Zack (Lundi Lin), Jason (Dacre Montgomery, Kimberly (Naomi Scott), and Billy (RK Cyler) are decked out in armor like suits.
According to director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac),the suits were designed with a very specific theme in mind.
“The show was always about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” Israelite told the magazine. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
Given their updated look, it’s definitely clear that this new crop of teens tasked with saving the world will undoubtedly stand out among the rest of the forms the Power Rangers have taken over the years.
