Even a pesky little inconvenience like death can’t keep Will Gardner from returning to The Good Wife.
TVLine reports that Josh Charles’ immensely beloved yet decidedly deceased character will make an appearance on the series finale, which is scheduled to air on May 8. While CBS would not confirm that Charles is reprising his role, it’s being reported that Will and Alicia will once again share the screen in a newly created flashback sequence.
Will Gardner’s unexpected death in the season five episode “Dramatics, Your Honor” shocked The Good Wife fandom to its core as Charles was one of the most popular cast members on the hit CBS series. Since his high-profile Good Wife exit, the actor has starred in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and appeared on Inside Amy Schumer and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Gardner’s potential return to The Good Wife is good news for any TV fan who’s had to bid farewell to a beloved character. If for nothing else than because it shows viewers of series like The Blacklist or Sleepy Hollow (both of which have killed off key characters — [spoiler one] and [spoiler two]— in recent weeks) that sometimes people do come back!
