“Took a job. Looking for some men to join me,” Denzel’s bounty hunter character Sam Chisolm tells Chris Pratt’s Josh Farraday.
“Is it difficult?” Pratt asks. “Impossible,” Washington stoically replies.
Despite an illustrious career that has spanned five decades, this is Washington’s first western. Fuqua revealed during an interview with USA Today that Denzel took horseback riding lessons and constantly carried his character’s Colt .45 Peacemaker with him to prepare for the role.
“He had it with him all the time, even when he wasn’t on the set,” the director said. “We’d have meetings and he’d be spinning and twirling his gun while we were talking. He used to walk around his house spinning guns, go to restaurants. Obviously, people knew it was for his character.”
