Scott Eastwood couldn’t be more thrilled about joining the cast of Fast 8.

Shortly after Universal announced his involvement in the upcoming film, Eastwood took to his Instagram to express just how excited he is for the opportunity to become part of the Fast family. The actor posted a photo of himself featuring the hashtag “#F8” along with a heartfelt post where he touched on what the franchise means to him, his relationship with the late Paul Walker, and more.

It's hard to put into words how excited I am for the next Fast & Furious. To me, the series is so much more than just a franchise. It’s a legacy. These great actors who have been in it together for so long have become a family. I absolutely can’t wait to join it. Now I can’t say too much, but I get to play a new character who operates under Kurt Russell in the movie, which is incredible, because Kurt was a total childhood hero of mine growing up. Very much looking forward to learning a thing or two from such an original and cool guy. Paul was a close friend of mine. We surfed together, traveled together, and he was a huge role model and influencing figure in my life when I was younger. He still is. He was an older brother to me. For me to be able to add to the F&F story, Paul’s story, and the FAST family is like a dream come true. Gary Gray and Neal Moritz – I can’t wait to get started and dive in. Vin – thank you for the support and the insight. Paul – I am going to make you proud. #F8

These great actors who have been in it together for so long have become a family. I absolutely can’t wait to join it,” wrote the star of The Longest Ride.

In a sobering moment, the actor also shared a bit of insight on his personal relationship with Walker, likening the late actor to an older brother.

“Paul was a close friend of mine. We served together, traveled together, and he was a huge role model and influencing figure in my life when I was younger,” continued Eastwood. “He still is. He was an older brother to me. For me, to be able to add to the F&F story, Paul’s story, and the FAST family is like a dream come true.”

Though it was just announced on Monday (April 11) that Eastwood is joining the franchise, it sounds like he’s already fitting in just fine with the other cast members. Toward the end of his post, the actor made reference to the fact that Vin Diesel (who plays Dom Toretto in the series) has been giving him some tips.

“Vin— thank you for the support and the insight,” wrote the actor. “Paul— I am going to make you proud.”

And for those of you wanting to know more about his upcoming character, the actor slipped in a few clues as to what we can expect when the film speeds on to the big screen in 2017.

“I can’t say too much, but I get to play a new character who operates under Kurt Russell in the movie,” teased the actor.

Eastwood’s definitely got some huge shoes to fill, but considering how much he cares about the series, we’re sure he’ll do his role in Fast 8 justice!

Fast 8 hits theaters April 14, 2017.
