The first official trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange is here and it’s awe-inspiring. Premiering on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (April 12) with the film’s star, Benedict Cumberbatch doing the honors, the teaser gives fans their first glimpse of what the big-screen adaption will look like.
Cumberbatch takes the form of Stephen Vincent Strange, a neurosurgeon who, unbeknownst to him, becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against all mystical threats. It’s a big undertaking for someone out of the blue, which is evident from Cumberbatch’s reactions in the trailer.
“Your reality is one of many” says a voiceover (Tilda Swinton) as Strange assumes his new duties.
Though the clip is short — it comes in just under two minutes — it packs a punch! One pinnacle scene shows Strange’s soul literally separating form his body after taking a blow from his sensei, The Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton.
Doctor Strange will mark Marvel’s fourteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Due out this November, this upcoming Scott Derrickson-helmed film about Black Magic and all its qualms, beckons the viewer to “open your mind” and “change your reality” and judging from the first official trailer, there’s plenty more magic in store. Check it out above and start believing early.
