Get ready to freak out! The newest Caped Crusader is heading behind the camera to direct a new Batman movie!
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed at Cinema Con in Las Vegas today (April 12) that the studio is working with Ben Affleck to develop the long-rumored Batman standalone film, Mashable reports. Affleck will not only direct and star in the movie, he might also write the feature.
“It’s been tremendously exciting for us to be a part of the DC Universe, and we’re looking forward to working on Justice League,” Affleck said while appearing with Amy Adams at the event.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, William Morris Endeavor’s Patrick Whitesell said that Affleck had written a script that is a “really cool [Batman idea],” adding that it’s “out there as an option.”
“Geoff Johns is a brilliant guy,” Affleck said. “You know he and I are working together on something and I really am excited about it, and I love him, he’s the best.”
No official release date for the Batman standalone film as been announced.
The next DC Comics superhero release will be Suicide Squad, which arrives in theaters August 5, 2016.
