The future is looking grim for Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow. After months of fan speculation over whether or not the beloved character managed to survive last season’s finale, HBO has officially confirmed that he is in fact dead.

TV Line points out that the confirmation of Jon Snow’s fate comes in the form of a synopsis for the upcoming season which was released by the premium cable network. The short description for the upcoming season premiere clearly states “Jon Snow is dead.”

Of course, we’re sure quite a few fans will still be holding out hope that this is all a ruse and if you’re among that group, we wouldn’t blame you. There have been loads of clues hinting of Jon Snow’s return despite the fact that the the character met his untimely demise at the end of season 5 after the Night’s Watch turned on him.

Even so, we’ll have to wait until season 6 premieres to know what Jon Snow’ fate is for sure. The one thing we do know is that we’ll definitely see actor Kit Harington portray the beloved character at least once more this season. While the actor continues to tell fans he’s been killed off, he did concede in an interview earlier this year that he returned to the Game of Thrones set to shoot some “scenes of me being dead.”

Jon Snow aside, the newly released synopsis for the upcoming premiere also teases the fact that Daenerys will meet a “strong man” and that Cerise and her daughter will be reunited once more.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday, April 24 at 9 p.m.
