With Elena (Nina Dobrev) out for the count, it looks like Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) will get even closer next season.

During The Vampire Diaries Comic-Con panel in San Diego this weekend, Somerhalder hinted that there’s a lot more “Bamon” to come in season seven of The CW drama.

“The beginning of the season for Bonnie and Damon was the best stuff ever. It was fun and very dynamic. It’s an amazing recipe for a lot of cool drama,” said Somerhalder, who also teased that Damon will be going back to his “volatile, fun, dangerous” season one roots when the series picks up in the fall.

“All that energy you fell in love with, I’m bringing it back,” promised Somerhalder.

Meanwhile, Graham added that Elena’s absence will certainly impact Bonnie’s relationship with Damon.

“I thought it was a really clever way to keep Elena there and keep her presence there and keep the door open in a lot of ways to have her come back,” said Graham about the sleeping beauty curse (h/t EW). “It also creates an interesting dynamic [between Bonnie and Damon] going into season seven and the fact that Bonnie is alive and Elena’s not. It’s on Bonnie to stay alive.”

Whether or not Bonnie and Damon’s relationship extends beyond friendship remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: It’s certainly not the only dynamic fans can expect to see evolve next season.

According to showrunner Julie Plec, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) will be sharing lots of screen time as well.

“[There’s] a lot of very unexpected twists and turns. The fun of this couple is that they’re just getting cemented in their romantic status,” said Plec. “As we left it off, he said, I will be here when you’re ready.’ She’s trying really, really hard not to be ready.'”

If the Vampire Diaries Hall H panel is anything to go by, sounds like the Salvatore brothers are in for an interesting, relationship-driven season seven!

The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW sometime in the fall.
