Live from New York… it’s the Ghostbusters!
By now everyone knows that the comedy dream team of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon have been cast to protect the world against paranormal threats in the upcoming Ghosbusters reboot, but until now the time and setting for the film have been purely speculation. During the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary red carpet, director Paul Feig strapped on his theoretical Proton pack to perform a bit of myth busting.
“There’s a lot of misinformation out there,” Feig said regarding the highly anticipated reboot. “I almost enjoy all the things that people are getting wrong about what’s coming up.”
Despite all the rumors and false information surrounding the highly publicized remake, Feig did provide fans with one very important morsel of Ghostbusters related news: The setting. According to Feig, the fearless foursome of Wiig, McCarthy, Jones, and McKinnon will be busting ghosts in modern-day New York City.
Feig also revealed new information regarding what you can expect from the film’s supernatural antagonists.
“I love special effects and I love special effects that aren’t all CGI, so our hope is to kind of have an old-school feel that then still feels very modern and big in scope. It’s comedy, that’s the biggest rule. We don’t want bombast and all these effects if you’re not laughing the whole time.”
It doesn’t get much bigger, scope or otherwise, than that hot dog loving menace from the original film: Slimer!
The Ghostbusters reboot will arrive in theaters July 22nd, 2016.
