Could Anne Hathaway don the iconic catsuit once more and transform back into the beguiling, feline-adoring outlaw known as Catwoman?
Hathaway, who memorably portrayed the seductive temptress in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, undoubtedly made superhero fans purr in delight when she revealed that she’s open to the possibility of reprising her role as Catwoman.
“I would be totally up for doing it if Chris [Nolan] was involved,” Hathaway recently told IGN. “For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham. Without him I don’t think it would be the same thing. But I also wonder about that part. If because she’s a thief, it’s not better to have her be a small part in a larger film. So she can go through and steal aspects of the film. But when the focus is squarely on her, I don’t know if it works as well.”
Recent history appears to support Hathaway’s assessment of the situation. Halle Berry infamously starred in the critically derided standalone Catwoman film back in 2004. The movie currently owns a meager 9% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
But what about the
elephant bat in the room? Would Hathway consider making the purrfect cameo appearance in one of DC’s many upcoming superhero films like say, oh we don’t know, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?
“I’d definitely love that. I want to play her again. I don’t know – this is just speculation, because I do think about it sometimes – I think she’s got an amazing backstory and it would be great to see her get her own film. But I don’t know. She is someone who… mystery serves her well so I don’t know what a whole film would do. But who knows?”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2016.
