The 2014 Teen Choice Awards had two themes: Surfboards and midriffs.

Held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland and Teen Wolf ‘s Tyler Posey hosted the show, which honored the biggest names in music, movies, and TV. Hyland sparkled on the red carpet in a navy shimmery Marc Jacobs dress.

Selena Gomez was a huge winner, taking home night’s biggest honor with the “Ultimate Choice Award.” She looked elegant and ladylike on the carpet in black Saint Laurent pants and a blazer. Her pal Taylor Swift was also a winner, taking home a surfboard for “Choice Female Country Artist.” Swift wore melon green Novis matching coordinates on the carpet. Other notable winners include Ariana Grande, who took home two awards, and Pretty Little Liars, which won “Choice Drama.”

There was no denying that this was the year of the crop top—more stars wore them than didn’t! Queen of cool Kylie Jenner—who walked the blue carpet with sisters Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian—killed it in a green Sass & Bide skirt and black crop top. Shay Mitchell was a vision in white, wearing a Misha Collection lace top-and-skirt set that has been previously worn by Jenner’s sister Kim Kardashian. Fashionista Chloe Moretz interpreted the trend in her own way, wearing red Valentino shorts and a blazer coordinates.

Although the ladies not wearing crop tops were few and far between, they stood in their own right. Country cutie Lucy Hale stunned in a red satin Dior fit-and-flare dress (and killer braid).
