Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale speaks the “uncomfortable” truth.

Before actress Dakota Johnson nabbed the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, many of Hollywood’s most prominent young starlets were vying for the potential breakout part — including Hale.

During an interview for the September issue of Cosmopolitan, The “Lie A Little Better” singer opened up about the audition process for one of the most anticipated films of 2015.

“That audition was so uncomfortable!” Hale told Cosmo. “There were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud, but it’s one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you’re going to make a fool of yourself.”

The television star previously told MTV that she auditioned without a male co-star, and described the entire process as “unlike any audition I have ever done before in my life.”

“I think any girl in my demographic would have loved to be a part of it,” Hale told MTV. “Mainly, I was just interested in doing something risky and doing something a little different than my character on PLL so it took me out of my comfort zone.”

Hale went on to say that her particular audition didn’t include a scene from the popular novel but that it was something “I don’t want my grandmother watching.”

All hail the Queen of Honesty!

Fifty Shades of Grey arrives in theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day 2015 (February 13, 2015), while an all new episode of Pretty Little Liars airs tonight on ABC Family!
