From blockbuster vampire flicks to small art house movies, 28-year-old Robert Pattinson has already had quite the eclectic film career. Along with his tremendous commercial success, fans remain riveted with Pattinson’s personal life — specifically his relationship with former Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart. During an interview for an upcoming issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson acknowledged that he’s still in contact with Stewart.
“Oh yeah,” said Pattinson when asked whether he and his former co-star are still in touch. The actor also admitted that he never believed the vampire franchise that catapulted them both into the public eye would actually be a hit.
“I genuinely had no idea it was going to be a [blockbuster],” Pattinson said.
What else did we learn about Pattinson from his Hollywood Reporter interview? See the three most revealing bits below:
On nearly quitting acting: “I was so into the script of it and thought I knew exactly what I was doing,” Pattinson said. “And then I went in and just completely blew it. And honestly, I remember talking to my family afterward and going, ‘I’m done. I can’t handle how gut-wrenching it is.’ And I kind of knew that I was messing it up. It was my own fault.”
On auditioning for Twilight: “In one of the scenes, I [was meant] to take my shirt off, and I think I was the one guy who didn’t.”
On playing Edward in Twilight: “It was quite a constricting character, in a way. You want to make [him] as dramatic as possible, but you have someone who never loses his temper…. I think that was one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever done.”
Robert Pattinson’s latest film The Rover opens June 20.
