Pharrell, J.K. Rowling, And More Celebs Pay Tribute To Maya Angelou

Legendary poet and author Maya Angelou died on Wednesday morning at the age of 86 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A renowned civil rights activist, Angelou picked up a Pulitzer Prize nomination for her 1970 novel Why The Caged Bird Sings and starred in films like How to Make an American Quilt and Poetic Justice. Angelou’s family released a statement on Facebook announcing the passing.

“She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace,” the statement reads. “The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.”

Various celebrities took to social media to pay their respects.
