Wow! What a night. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards provided music fans with a little bit of everything. Jennifer Lopez became the first female recipient of the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award, Lorde picked up trophies like a royal (taking home both the Top New Artist and Top Rock Song honors), and Justin Timberlake added to his already impressive array of award show honors by capturing the Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album awards. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, but now let’s talk about what really matters…

The performances!

Here’s our list of the 5 buzziest performances (in no particular order) from this year’s Billboard Music Awards!

1. Ariana Grande & Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX perform “Fancy” and “Problem”

“I said brr! It’s cold in here
I said there must be some Toros
In the atmosphere”

Iggy Azalea brought the MGM crowd to their feet with a Bring It On-inspired performance of “Fancy” followed by Grande’s rousing rendition of the unofficial Billboard Award winner for “Song You Accidentally Sing Out Loud While Jogging,” “Problem.”

2. 5 Seconds of Summer perform “She Looks So Perfect”

By and large we live in a relatively tolerant society, but if you ever, and we mean EVER have the audacity to botch the sacrosanct tradition of an award show introduction, society will pounce on you with the fervor of a million incensed boy band fans.

Kendall Jenner, go sit next to John Travolta in the celebrity time-out corner.

3. Katy Perry shares a colorful performance of “Birthday”

The always innovative never duplicated Katy Perry added to her list of inventive live performances by giving us a rendition of “Birthday” that can best be described as:

4. Michael Jackson performs “Slave to the Rhythm”

Michael Jackson is a music icon and icons don’t allow a little technicality like not being alive stop them from performing on one of the most illustrious nights of the year.  Take a look at MJ’s unique hologram performance of “Slave to the Rhythm.”

5. Miley Cyrus performs “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”

Dressed up like an owl, Miley Cyrus performed a mind-altering rendition of the Beatles classic “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” with a little help from The Flaming Lips. Take a look!
