While mothers across the country will receive a well-deserved day of acknowledgment this Sunday, let’s not forget about another group that deserves our respect and admiration: television moms. While our real life mothers bandaged our scraped knees and repeatedly assured us that monsters rarely take up residency in our bedroom closets, it was the TV moms of yore who also made us laugh, think, and most importantly feel as they helped raise us from the cozy confines of a Los Angeles based sound studio.
Much like it’s nearly impossible for a parent to choose a favorite child, it’s difficult for us to select our favorite television mom. We have classic role models like Clair Huxtable and Carol Brady, a cool gal pal mom like Lorelai Gilmore, and contemporary favorites like Friday Night Light’s inspirational Tami Taylor, Modern Family’s Claire Dunphy, and Parenthood’s Kristina Braverman.
Plus, we didn’t even mention classic television matriarchs like Kristin Cohen, Marie Barone, and everyone’s favorite animated guardian, Marge Simpson!
We once again need your assistance, People’s Choicers. We’re asking you to nominate your Favorite TV Mom in the comments section. Maybe it’s someone we mentioned; perhaps it’s a mother we forgot. There’s no wrong answer, just a celebration of television moms everywhere, because, hey, it’s their day too.
Happy Mother’s Day!
