Who is the funniest person in comedy? While this may seem like an innocuous, straightforward question, it’s actually quite complex. How can you possibly be expected to select just one person from an exhaustive list of worthy candidates? While we don’t have the science to technically back this claim up, attempting to choose between Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy will cause steam to shoot out of your ears like an adorable cartoon villain.

Since we’re not equipped to answer this question, we went straight to the red carpet of the American Comedy Awards to ask the experts to help us unearth the answer. We left no comedic stone unturned. You want a movie star’s opinion? We got Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann. TV actors? The Mindy Project’s Adam Pally and Bill Hader have that covered. Comedians? We have a comedy all-star team featuring Jim Gaffigan, Hannibal Buress, Billy Eichner, Mike Birbiglia, SNL’s Kate McKinnon, and Comedy Bang Bang host Scott Aukerman.

Who do some of the most hysterical people in the entertainment industry believe is the funniest person in comedy? Let’s find out!

From stand-up specialists like John Mulaney and Louis C.K. to comedic icons like Bill Murray and Bill Cosby, our informal survey produced an array of hilarious candidates for the unofficial moniker of “Funniest Person in Comedy.”

Now, the only question remaining is, “Who’s going to write the Seth Rogen/Amy Poehler buddy cop comedy movie that America so desperately wants, nay NEEDS, to see?

The American Comedy Awards air tomorrow night on NBC!
