Lady Gaga may have had an incredibly busy 2013, but it wasn’t necessarily a good one.

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the ArtPop singer reveals she felt “depressed” and “cynical” last year.

“I just didn’t feel like fighting anymore. I didn’t feel like standing up for myself one more time—to one more person who lied to me,” says Gaga, who explains that the new year prompted her to start fresh. “But January 1, I woke up, started crying again, and I looked in the mirror and said, ‘I know you don’t want to fight. I know you think you can’t, but you’ve done this before. I know it hurts, but you won’t survive this depression.’ I really felt like I was dying—my light completely out. I said to myself, ‘Whatever is left in there, even just one light molecule, you will find it and make it multiply. You have to for you. You have to for your music. You have to for your fans and your family.’ Depression doesn’t take away your talents—it just makes them harder to find.”

The root of her discontent? Gaga says she felt taken advantage of by people she trusted. “I asked my mother, “I work so hard. I never stop. I never say no. Why doesn’t this person love me, Mom? Why was this person willing to hurt me to help themselves? Why wasn’t I enough? Why is money more important than me?”

In the interview, Gaga — who will soon be embarking on her ArtRave tour — also opens up about another very personal aspect of her life: Her relationship with Chicago Fire star Taylor Kinney…albeit subtly. When asked to recall the last time she laughed out loud, Gaga says it was the day of the interview when “my Taylor stole my SpongeBob SquarePants socks from Tokyo.”

Okay, so she didn’t reveal any intimate details or anything but we’d say that “my” is pretty telling…no?

What do you think about Lady Gaga’s revelations?

  1. I have been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet
I never found any interesting article like yours. It is
pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all site owners
and bloggers made good content as you did, the
internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

  2. Alvaro Diaz says:

She’s such a talented artist and a perfect girl. She’s always caring about her fans (myself included) and she feels bad because she trusted on a “friend”, but it was not a friend. She is not writing music for the charts + money, she writes because of the fans and our applause, as she said on the “applause” song. We are so proud of her and she is happy with that thing, nothing else matters in this case, she will be always in our hearts, she is a gypsy girl and she has many many homes, the little monsters hearts <3
