Clay Aiken for Congress? The ‘American Idol’ Runner-Up Launches Campaign

Clay Aiken has already been crowned runner-up of American Idol, now he’s hoping for a different kind of title: Congressional Representative of North Carolina.

The singer is launching a bid to oust Republican Representative Renee Ellmers in the state’s conservative 2nd congressional district, Reuters reports.

Aiken — who used to work as a special education teacher in North Carolina and will be running as a Democrat — launched his “Open Door” campaign with a Youtube video today. In the video, Aiken talks about his difficult childhood and how there’s more to him then the “golden ticket” that was American Idol. Check it out below:
