Superman just met his match!
Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg has landed the role of notorious villain (and Superman foe) Lex Luthor in the highly-anticipated Superman Vs. Batman movie, Warner Bros. announced today.
“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940,″ Director Zack Snyder said in a statement about the casting on Friday. “What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”
Eisenberg wasn’t the only big name revealed on Friday. Jeremy Irons has also been cast in the film as Batman’s bulter Alfred. They’ll be joining previously announced stars Henry Cavill, who will reprise his role as Superman, and Ben Affleck, who is set to play Batman.
Much like the Batfleck saga that occurred a few months ago, fans were quick to weigh in on unexpected casting decision:

All joking aside. We question Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor but we also questioned Heath Ledger when he was cast as the Joker. Just sayin'—
