Homeland

The 2014 Golden Globe nominees were announced today and amidst the usual sea of snubs and surprises were a few outrageous, absolutely jaw dropping television shockers. Some were good, while a few left us scratching our heads. Did your favorite TV star receive a nomination? YES. Or no, actually. We have no way of knowing who your favorite star is, so let’s just settle on maybe. Check out the list below to see the five biggest surprises from today’s Golden Globe nominations!

1. Snub: Table for three. Your hostess will seat you now.

Talk about drama. Homeland, the reigning back-to-back dramatic series winner, Mad Men and Game of Thrones received a total of zero nominations. We’re not just talking about this category, oh no, TOTAL. A total of zero nominations. The old guard was replaced by some dramatic new blood — most notably Netflix’s House of Cards and Showtime’s Masters of Sex.

2. Newcomer Brooklyn Nine-Nine scores two surprising nods.

One of the funniest new sitcoms of the season not only beat out their Fox neighbor New Girl to earn an elusive Best Comedy nomination, but star Andy Samberg received a surprise nod for Best Comedic Actor. Fans of New Girl still have star Zooey Deschanel’s nomination for Best Comedic Actress to look forward to, but sadly her trio of hilarious male roommates will need to find a fourth if they want to play a rousing game of True American on Golden Globe Sunday.

3. The Golden Globe’s are apparently avid readers of PeoplesChoice.com.

Yesterday we bemoaned the outrageous crimes against comedy that were the SAG Award snubs of Parks and Recreation and its ebullient star Amy Poehler. The Golden Globes were apparently listening. Not only did Parks and Rec AND Amy Poehler receive nominations for Best Comedy Series and Best Comedic Actress in a Comedy Series respectively, but Tatiana Maslany, who plays seven (yes, seven!) characters on Orphan Black, received a well-deserved nod for Best Female Performance in a Drama Series!

4. Orange is the new snub.

A bit of good news/bad news for fans of the Netflix sensation Orange is the New Black. Lead actress Taylor Schilling joined fellow nominees Tatiana Maslany, Julianna Margulies, Kerry Washington and Robin Wright in the ultra competitive Best Female Performance in a Drama Series category, but just like the SAG Awards the popular series was not nominated for Best Dramatic Series.

5. And our “Where is your hall pass?” award for the performer whose absence from the list of nominees is the most inexcusable is…

A tie between Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. You two have been through enough, so we’ll let you off with a stern warning. But JUST THIS ONCE.

The 71st Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air January 12th on NBC.

What do you think about this year’s nominees? Biggest surprise? Biggest snub? Let us know what you think!
