You’re not the only one who was surprised by Sara Bareilles’ album of the year Grammy nomination, the singer too was caught off guard.
“It all feels very surreal, said Bareilles, who earned the nod for her album “Blessed Unrest,” as well as a nomination for best pop solo performance for her single “Brave.” “I think my entire team we’re sort of looking at each other with this childlike astonishment, it was just so unexpected. I feel so honored and so grateful to have been selected as a nominee. I kinda can’t believe it and I know a lot of people can’t believe it, but I’m gonna take it. I’m thrilled; I’m so happy.”
Though Bareilles has earned Grammy nods before, the album of the year nomination is a first for her. The singer — who said she was in Vegas to perform at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards ceremony when she received the news — bested artists like Kanye West and Justin Timberlake for the coveted honor. “I got a phone call from my manager and preceded to scream into the phone for about 20 minutes,” says Bareilles, who was nominated for album of the year alongside artists including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Daft Punk. “Then I called everybody I knew and was shaking and then went downstairs to the ballroom and sang “Brave” with everything I got because I was just so excited.”The Grammys aren’t the only exciting event ahead for Bareilles in the new year. The singer — who says she’s working on a new book and musical, and considering touring again — also has a very special performance lined up for the 2014 People’s Choice Awards. (Bareilles talks to PeoplesChoice.com exclusively about the performance here.)
“It looks like it’s shaping up to be a really busy year,” says Bareilles. “But it’s all really exciting, wonderful things to sink my teeth into and I’m feeling really happy today.”
