Now that Charlie Hunnam’s out of the picture, Fifty Shades of Grey fans are itching to know who will take over the role over the dark, brooding, oh-so-handsome Christian Grey. Plenty of popular names have been swirling around — Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer come to mind — but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like studio execs have a few other candidates up their sleeves. Below, we size up the contenders:

Alexander Skarsgard: Given his True Blood pedigree, we’d say Skarsgard has the dark, brooding Adonis schtick down. Add to that the different personalities he’s shown us on the HBO series — vulnerable, vengeful, loving — and he’s a shoe-in for the emotionally bruised yet polished Christian Grey. We’ll let the fact that he looks far from 27 years old slide.

Jamie Dornan: Dornan has dated Kiera Knightley, modeled in Calvin Klein ads, guested on Once Upon a Time and currently stars along Gillian Anderson in the BBC America cop drama The Fall, in which he plays a serial killer. Smoldering looks good enough to sell underwear and serial killer character cred? Skarsgard, you’ve got competition.

Theo James: The actor is known for his British series Bedlam but is getting some more attention Stateside — and not just because he’s been cast in CBS’ Golden Boy and as Four in Divergent. We think he could play both sides of the coin: handsome suit during the day and tortured soul at night.

Christian Cooke: Mostly known for his work in British series, Cooke is the youngest of the four candidates — and certainly looks it. We think he has too much school boy charm to play the role of a business magnate. May we suggest a role in Beautiful Disaster?

Who do you think should play Christian Grey? Any favorites from our list?
