In case you haven’t heard, voting for new categories for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards has started. If this is your first time voting, here’s the scoop. Unlike any other awards show, the fans get to choose which new categories will be added to this year’s show! So vote often and be sure to check back to see if your selections make the cut on October 23rd.
Now that we got all that out of the way, let’s take a closer look at some of the potential music categories this year? We have Favorite Festival Headliner, Favorite DJ, Favorite Fan Following, Favorite Face of Pop Music, and Favorite Singer/Actor. While I hope everyone understands these categories, in case you’re unsure, I will help you along with a little description of each. So let’s jump right in and say good-bye to summer by talking about some of our Favorite Festival Headliners.
We have been blogging about them all summer. From Snoop Dogg (a.k.a Snoop Lion) at Coachella to Jay-Z brushing the dirt off his shoulder at Made in America, there was no shortage of festival headliners to talk about in 2012. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam rocked the stage all summer long (new albums? hint? hint?). The Black Keys solidified themselves as true rockers by crushing Coachella in April and tearing up the summer festival scene at Bonnaroo, Firefly Music Festival, Catalpa Festival, Lollapolooza and Osheaga. And let us not forget about the always soulful Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige who laid it down at Essence Festival in New Orleans. So whether you bobbed your head to Rick Ross, Ludacris, and Kid Cudi, or danced till your feet hurt to the likes of Radiohead, The Disco Biscuits, and The Killers, it is safe to say that we were treated to all kinds of great music these past few months. So if you guys want to see your favorite headliner up for an award, you know what to do.
Now maybe it’s just me, but while I appreciate all the great songs those headliners produce, I am an electronic music fan and I love a good DJ. Now just to clarify, for those of you who have not seen a disc jockey since the 1980s, when we say DJ, we mean the likes of Tiesto, Afrojack, David Guetta, and Calvin Harris – not Ryan Seacrest, and the Z Morning Zoo Crew (sorry guys). So when you are voting for Favorite DJ, realize we are talking about the bass thumping, melody-mixing guys who have been tearing up every club around the world, and not the guys spinning songs in between weather updates.
Oh, and btw, if you think electronic music will just fade away, look at Jennifer Lopez who clearly loves it, Pitbull who pretty much breathes it and even the newly appointed replacement for Christina Aguillera, on The Voice next season, Usher, who has a track featuring David Guetta. So when you are choosing which category to bring to the show, make sure you choose one you know you love. Cause who are you kidding- was it really Nicki Minaj making you dance like crazy last weekend or was it the beat that David Guetta dropped for “Turn Me On” that made your heels ache? Yeah. That’s what I thought.
Speaking of Nicki Minaj, how are you Barbies doing out there? Are you stronger fans than the Lovatics or the Beliebers? Will you be able to withstand the onslaught of votes from the OneDirectioners or the Glamberts? Word on the street is that the Little Monsters got you beat. Are you going to take that? Well, the stage can be set for a showdown if you dare, so vote for Favorite Fan Following and organize the troops. You wouldn’t want the Rihanna Navy to take the crown would you? I doubt Nicki would appreciate that one….
Well, just in case you are too afraid, you can still have a chance to vote for her as your Favorite Face of Pop Music. With other stars like Demi Lovato, Carly Rae Jepsen, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez up for the prize, you can be sure that some fierce ladies will be putting their best faces forward to try and win your vote. To ensure your artist is named as the Face of Pop Music, make sure this category makes it to the PCAs.
Finally, if you love music and adore when artists switch over to acting, the Favorite Singer/Actor category is for you. There would be plenty to choose from since Eminem, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Mandy Moore, Jennifer Lopez, and Demi Lovato have all made the switch at some point in their careers. I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be voting for this category. I am personally hoping Eminem does an impromptu rap battle against the presenter if he wins. It’s a long shot but, hey, the PCAs are live, so you never know.
P!nk: “The Truth About Love ”
The Killers: “Battle Born”
Paul Simon: “Live in New York City “
