Who Should Play Elizabeth Taylor?

Many, many of our PCA fans love their daytime dramas. So riddle me this: Would you watch General Hospital at night? Not DVR’d or Tivo’d – but during prime time? If General Hospital actually became an evening drama?

If it sounds ludicrous, it’s not. In fact, the idea is being bandied about by ABC right now. Since other beloved daytime dramas came to such unfortunate ends when those “internet viewing” options failed to materialize, perhaps this fate for GH wouldn’t be half bad. The concept would be much like the Spanish-language telenovelas, says TV Guide, who air for a shorter season and during the summertime. Right now General Hospital is benefitting from a major infusion of talent – four stars from the late One Life To Live have agreed to come aboard: Kristen Alderson, Michael Easton, Kassie DePaiva and Roger Howarth. As it stands now, on April 1st the fans can catch the show’s 49th season premiere. Along with a bunch of new fans who will accompany their OLTL faves. The question is – if  General Hospital ever starts airing at night, would all these folks stick with it? Would you?

Moving on, let’s talk about Modern Family. Full disclosure #1: I happen to love this show and find it as delightful as anything I have ever seen on TV. Ever. So now it seems that show’s in hot water with those people who monitor what is and what isn’t appropriate viewing. Full disclosure #2: I don’t swear a lot. Oh sometimes, but not a lot. Largely because I am the youngest of seven children who grew up in a fairly traditional and strict environment: kids shouldn’t drink, smoke, use drugs, swear, or travel in sweatsuits. Thus, while I don’t much care if people cuss around me, I tend not to do it so much myself – and certainly not around the elderly. But now Modern Family’s come under fire because tiny Lily, Mitchell and Cameron’s daughter, allegedly uses the “F” word. Here’s my issue with the groups who are currently protesting this “outrage”. First of all, even though I might not think it’s so appealing or even appropriate, that doesn’t matter –  because it’s 2012. This is not a word that kids don’t hear on every premium cable channel everywhere. But what really bugs me – and I’ve said this before – is how these groups get all up in arms about language but they don’t lift a finger when procedural dramas feature dismembered bodies and all manner of blood, weaponry, and gore. Why is that okay? Why is it fine to tacitly glorify violence and then condemn an arguably groundbreaking show because a little kid says something she learned from her parents? I have trouble with these double standards. Just saying. What do you think? Where do you draw the line on what’s appropriate and what isn’t – and do you feel that your kids are being exposed to too much/too little/ not enough? Let us know.

Today’s poll:

They’re making the biopic of Elizabeth Taylor. Which of these young ladies would you like to see play La Liz on the big screen?

1)   Megan Fox

2)   Lindsay Lohan

3)   Zooey Deschanel

4)   Emma Stone

  1. NY says:

Boy did they screw up not casting Alexis Kiley.

  2. MediaOne says:

I agree with Maria-it should be Alexis Kiley for the role.

  3. maria says:

ALEXIS KILEY OR EMILY BLUNT. NOT LOHAN!!

  4. Joan says:

Lily Collins! Gorgeous – all she needs is tinted contact lenses.

  5. zura says:

Natalie Glebova – Miss Universe 2005 -she look likes elizabeth taylor more than enyvone!!!

  6. June Vaughn says:

Katy Perry or Kate Beckinsale both beautiful and resemble the actress Elizabeth Taylor so should play her.

  7. Skater Boy says:

I would go with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Susan Lucci to cover the life span. I almost said Jaclyn Smith but Lucci has more bite though she may not be well known.

  8. Right Wing Fedora says:

Alexis Kiley not only looks the part, but presents herself with such poise and grace befitting of a starlet worthy of eternal accolades. The selection presented to your readers is devoid of the right chemistry, charisma, and “fit” for such a role. Alexis Kiley would be natural to flow “in character” as well as present a radiant glamour image necessary for the role of the vixen Elizabeth Taylor.

  9. Elizabeth Hurley should play Elizabeth Taylor. She is not only beautiful but a very classy lady.

  10. cricket says:

    Alexis Kiely for Elizabeth Taylor

  11. Roderick Shirley says:

Alexis Kiley would be PERFECT for this role. She not only LOOKS the part, but has a similar pleasing personality and charm. PICK KILEY!

  12. marcella meyer says:

Katy Perry, eyes are a dead ringer and she has the personality.

  13. MediaOne says:

    alexis kiley

  14. bill says:

beautiful. spoiled. firey. arrogant. flawed. short.
    classy (at times).
    I give up. Who?

  15. Brenda says:

Jennifer Lopez could do it. Jennifer can act and is also very sexy as Liz was.. Certainly not the four suggested above. Come on now!!!!

  16. Rita P says:

It’s ridiculous to think about casting someone to play Elizabeth Taylor in a biography. IT’S TOO SOON!

  17. pat says:

Katharine McPhee should play Liz Taylor. She certainly has the sex appeal ~!

  18. Nelly says:

How about Jennifer Connelly? Or Elizabeht McGovern? Either one of these beauties is a dead ringer for Liz.

  19. Jane says:

Natalie Portman is beautiful and a very talented young lady. I think she could pull it off very well. The ones listed, not so much

  20. gmoney says:

The only one who could pull it off would be Charlize Theron….

  21. MediaOne says:

    Alexis Kiley

Natural black hair, fair skin and looks very much like a young Liz Taylor.

  22. bob says:

Aylssa Milano would make an excellent Elizabeth Taylor!

  23. amanda scott says:

Very difficult casting for this roll. Elizabeth Taylor was a stunning beauty with a sharp quick wit. Unfortunately she broke the mold. We will have to make do with an adaptation of her. I don’t admire the casting agent for this one. She will be hard to find.

  24. webarl says:

theres only one qualifiied,KATERINE ZETA JONES

  25. BigDaddy says:

I think Katy Perry is a good suggestion, but… Anyone think of Halle Berry?

  26. sam says:

    SNOOKI! For sure…..LOL!

  27. danceing with the stars winner: kelly monaco. she is small like ms. taylor and o so beautifull! young and yet can be aged, but not too aged.

  28. juju55 says:

which hottie and why not emma stone

  29. i say get the hottie from general hospital

  30. janice says:

SHARON STONE: the person that plays liz should be a seasoned actress. someone that is extremely sexy with a couple of men under their belt. also, c. zeta-jones might be able to pill if off.

  31. ed stevens says:

I saw a post that suggeested that we try unknowns as well as established talent. I’m thining Madonna, Meryl Streep Susan Sarandon but this feeling that I have belies my age-Julia Roberts, an actress whom does have talent if she would use it, or someone of that ilk might be able to pull it off

  32. Denisa Dellinger says:

I don’t think these four actresses are it. Maybe Jennifer Love Hewitt, but to think of someone with the chops to play the roles that Liz did. She played vulnerable as well as strong bitchy characters. To cast someone who has her look is very important. I would put our a casting call for unknowns as well as heavy hitters and take time to get it right. Liz deserves this much respect.

  33. R2D2 says:

Rachel McAdams!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is totally the only one who could pull this off!!!!!!!!

  34. SSSS says:

OK…I say, hold an open casting call. There’s probably far better budding actresses just waiting for that big break. AND, probably far more who REALLY have that Liz look and attitude.
And…speaking of attitudes…all the choices already had/have their opportunities. It’s a Lifetime bio pic, there’s many people in their channel’s movies who aren’t big stars with big heads to match.
I say, give a new face a try…they might be pleasantly happy!!

  35. Kristen says:

I agree w/Camilla Belle. The four above shouldn’t have even been mentioned imo.

  36. Dolores Petro says:

There is no one beautiful enough to portray Elizabeth Taylor. As far as I am concerned, she was the most beautiful woman who ever lived!

  37. Mila Kunis or Camilla Belle have the beautiful faces like Liz’ was, but they are very thin. Liz had a beautiful body to go along with that beautiful face. But Lindsey Lohan – please… Just because she took her clothes off. Liz never took her clothes off nor did nudity. Lohan is not beautiful, she is shop worn and certainly has none of her class.

  38. VICTORIA PEYLA says:

sherylinn fenn has always made me think of liz. i bet you wont be sorry

  39. babylou52 says:

Kelly Monaco on General Hospital has the best profile and looks like a young Elizabeth Taylor..out of all these..not Lohan..ugh

  40. nyc says:

I have to admit….I don’t know Camilla Belle so I googled her…yeah she gets my vote.

  41. Nicole says:

Kim Cattrall. If you watch Elizabeth Taylor interviews and her movies you will see why she is my top pick by far..hands down. Keep in mind they are planning on casting someone to play richard burton , taylor’s ex husband, so whoever plays Elizabeth will have to have chemistry with the this MAN.

  42. WHY? says:

Why? She was a jealous hag and not a very good actor. If she had not been such a pretty young lady she never would have gotten past the casting couch.

    Why rehash her life story?

    Who cares!

  43. DV8 says:

None of the 4 listed. Lohan is a pig and trash and would be an insult to Liz Taylor.

  44. filmom says:

camilla belle… she looks more like elizabeth taylor than those on the list

  45. Rhonda says:

A dead ringer for Elizabeth Taylor plays on Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing show. Molly Ephraim looks so much like her she would be great!

  46. Janet says:

None of the above. It would need to be someone classy – and this just ain’t it…..

  47. bebe says:

Lohan….ugh. Though her bad acting comes close to what Liz’s was like and she has the bad temper too. I dont think Megan can handle the role though she has some of the tude she is kinda one dimensional. Her lips are not Liz either. Zoey is adorable but lacks the earthy sexuality of Liz. Nicole Kidman might have pulled off early Liz, but she is now too Botoxed out. Katy Perry is a horrible suggestion as is K.K> I shudder to think! Kate Beckinsale with blue contacts? But again , she lacks an earthiness which I desired when she did Ava Gardner. Many Hollywood women today lack it….a set of real hips, attitude and stage presence. An unknown perhaps would be best.

  48. misty says:

i think someone talented as well as beautiful like Mila Kunis would be great for this part :)

  49. misty says:

i think someone talented as well as beautiful like Mila Kunis would be great fro this part :)

  50. riyankee says:

Of the group listed I think that Megan Fox would be the best choice. But if I could choose any actress, it would be Angelina Jolie. While “The Tourist” was not a great film, it did give us a chance to see Angie as someone other than a tough girl and she certainly could carry off the jewels and fashions that Liz loved. She also has the personal experience to understand a great love story like Liz and Dick. She has the depth of character to pull off Liz both as young woman and as an older one. All of the others, while good actresses, don’t have the life experience that Angie has. She has the grace and beauty and empathy to be Liz as much as any actress could be. The fact is, there was only one Elizabeth Taylor and no one could do her real justice, but I think Angie comes the closest.

  51. robin says:

Angelina. She doesn’t really look like her, but her beauty is of the same jaw dropping variety. The others, no.

  52. Carol says:

I think that either Jennifer Love-Hewitt or Natalie Portman as far better suggestions than the choices in the article. especially Natalie Portman…no only is she beautifulbut she is an extremely talented young woman, smart and classy. Lindsay Lohan…beautiful yes, but no Liz Taylor, not even close.

  53. Jay says:

It should be Natalie Portman. She would bring class to the part and in a way, she reminds me of a young Liz.

  54. emrea says:

Although I didn’t directly address this topic, I agree with Shoegal who makes a valid point. LiLo is a very talented actress and let’s not forget that Liz also had her own scandals. I mean my goodness she was married what 7 or 8 times? Her private life apparently was a mess like LiLo but that took away nothing of her accomplishments in Hollywood and later on in life, her business savvy. Although LiLo may not be my first choice, she deserves a fair shot at an audition. Now Kim Kardashian that’s another story. I have not seen any talent whatsoever out of her. She is not in the same category as Liz except for a couple of marriages and divorces…on second thought if Kim keeps this up she WILL be the next Liz Taylor with her many husbands tossed to the side:)

  55. Jerry says:

Catherine Zeta Jones is the only one that comes to mind. Elizabeth Taylor was one of a kind. Good luck to anyone who decides to play Elizabeth.

  56. Bella says:

No, Liz, violence that u’r talking about is not OK, whether we talk about TV or real life. But Modern Family’s little Lilly allegedly using the “F” word is not OK either, whether it’s 2012 or else. No wonder the world goes down if people think it is ok to do anything, ‘coz is 2012.

  57. emrea says:

Really?? you guys are suggesting Susan Lucci? Catherine Zeta Jones and Laura Flynn are pushing it as well. These ladies, while terrific actresses, are too old to be playing out Liz’s life story. It should be a fresh faced young beauty who can be made to look older as the story progresses instead of trying to make an older woman look young. Maybe someone like Mila Kunis or Megan Fox (although I’m not sure about her acting abilities as I’ve not seen anything she’s been in…she does have the look)> if age wasn’t a factor then I would choose Angelina Jolie who definitely nails the exotic beautiful look as Elizabeth did and we know she can act.

  58. Pete says:

15-20 years ago….my vote would have been for Sherilyn Fenn

  59. Nanner says:

Katy Perry, Zoey Deschanel I would enjoy watching. The others’ yuk!

  60. Shoegal says:

I’m saddened that so many people are dogging Lindsay Lohan as if their closets are free of skeletons! This young lady can act, so let me say that to whoever disputed that is the mess. Someone having flaws doesn’t make them less talented. Look at the BS said about MJ, a music icon and legend no one will ever do what he did again! Yet constantly dogged & criticized, I think Liz Taylor was about redemption & forgiveness. Truly had Lindsay had guidance maybe the mistakes wouldn’t have shadowed her acting, but make no mistake the girl can act! I heard Megan Fox was considered and she is stunning, but acting she cannot do well! So I wouldn’t be mad if Lindsay gets the role, and truly shuts the mouths of haters who hate seeing people rise above difficulties!

  61. Tad says:

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Susan Lucci would be awesome not Lohan who has yet to prove she can act. Love Hewitt could do the early years and Lucci could handle the rest as she can be aged appropriately (Lucci cold play late 30′s to her death.

  62. helenKeeler says:

Kathy Perry would be good for Elizabeth teen years, like Nicky Hilton, Lindsay Lohan she is too trashy, If I were part of Liz taylor’s family I would be insulted with her as the choice. Kim K. would be the choice

  63. EJ says:

I agree with Ginny. Lindsay Lohan is trashy and I do believe her family would be insulted for someone like that to represent such a beautiful woman as Elizabeth Taylor. I have seen an actress I honestly think that another actress could pull the roll of her off and that is Kate Winslet. She has the talent and beauty.

  64. Sammi Mac says:

Camilla Belle- none of the choices posted deserve to come near that role.

  65. Donna says:

Zooey Deschanelof the four listed. definately not Lindsey, that would be an insult to Liz Taylor’s memory. It should at least b someone who can carry the roll. There should b a search before a decession is made

  66. Carol Lucky says:

Lindsey Lohan NO! Although Kim K is beautiful I don’t think she could pull it off. Maybe an unknown. And definitely Susan Lucci or Catherine Zeta Jones if she is older. I think maybe an unknown is better for this role. I’m thinking a Scarlett OHara talent search. She is out there, but we have to be patient for the movie we all dream of.

  67. dawn says:

kdd: you say no one trashy like Lohan and then suggest kim kardashian! snort. LMAO. I’ll be picturing the Ray J sextapes.
Vote for zooey, a raven haired beauty.

  68. ND GIRL says:

It needs to be someone who hasn’t had any plastic surgery! Megan FoxLara Flynn Boyle or Lindsay Lohan are out! They all have had too much work done. Elizabeth Taylor was a beautiful woman and didn’t look plastic. She was always graceful — is there an actress out there that could fit the bill? Maybe.

  69. sargejudy says:

Catherine Zeta Jones or Susan Lucci

  70. kkd says:

Anyone but trashy Lindsay Lohan. Catherine Zeta Jones, Lara Flynn Boyle, Kim Kardashian would be good.

  71. Rusty Black says:

As beautiful as Liz was , there should be a Liz search, in The U.K. but truly, they will never find a violet eyed Raven haired beauty like Liz….

  72. neil says:

I think it should be an unknown. Someone that the viewer does not have baggage with already.

  73. Denise McAtee says:

I agree with AAA. Susan Lucci would make a great Elizabeth Taylor. Lindsey Lohan is scum and it would be an insult for her to portray the great Liz Taylor!

  74. Valerie says:

I have to agree with Hollimama on this one. Megan Fox definitely is the most beautiful of this group; the closest in looks and strength of personality too. She has my vote to portray hands down! Sorry ‘LiLo’, you were a good actress, but you’ve thrown your life away & don’t deserve to plan an icon like Elizabeth Taylor.

  75. AAA says:

Susan Lucci should play Elizabeth Taylor.

  76. Kelly says:

here’s a better one Lara Flynn Boyle!

  77. Ann Marie says:

NOT LOHAN — THAT WOULD BE AN INSULT TO LIZ TAYLOR !!!

  78. Gayle says:

I think Megan Fox or Catherine Zeta Jones

  79. Yee Ling says:

    camilla belle

  80. Hollimama says:

I like Megan Fox for it. She has the right amount of attitude and similar looks. Lindsey can’t seem to pull it together enough to brush her hair and teeth, let alone pull off an icon like Liz Taylor. I LOVE Emma Stone and Zooey Deschanel, but I think certain inherent “diva” characteristics are lacking in both. Neither come across as “high maintenance” women, and Megan nails that hands down. Liz was well known for her philanthropy, but she was even more recognized for her hollywood standards.

  81. pr rodgers says:

    KATY PERRY

  82. ginny says:

ANYONE BUT LINDSAY LOHAN. SHE’S TRASH. IF I WERE PART OF LIZ TAYLOR’S FAMILY, I WOULD BE INSULTED WITH HER AS THE CHOICE.
