Happy Holidays! — And What’s Ryan Reynolds’ Best Role?

Are you ready for the holiday? Are you feeling feeling ultra-merry and bright or are you quietly awaiting the onslaught of delays, poor weather, and post-holiday sales? Here’s to a very happy holiday season and a joyous new year!

Now, to the PCA’s and the dudes YOU have chosen to nominate.Today’s Favorite Movie Actor nominee, the last of five, is a proud Canadian, People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive and an eight-time People’s Choice Award Nominee. He’s also known to have a wicked sense of humor.Plus, he’s super easy on the eyes.

Many people first became aware of Ryan Reynolds when he starred in The Proposal opposite Sandra Bullock. The movie was a smash hit and established him as a great comedic foil who could match Bullock step for step.

Reynolds had, of course made dozens of films and TV shows prior to this. He starred in the show Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place for several years, before being tapped to headline National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. This was a raunchy little number that paired him with Tara Reid, and made him a go-to guy for snarky dude roles, which he would play as recently as last year (in The Change Up with Jason Bateman). In 2009 he starred in Adventureland with Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg – a little film set in 1987 about the summer after senior year that I cannot recommend highly enough. Great movie, great acting, and an awesome soundtrack.Reynolds is sleazy and hilarious. That year he also appeared in Wolverine, and the action-star thing began to materialize. He then broadened his reach, starring in the creepy Iraq-war movie Buried (also known as Bic in a Box) while simultaneously embodying Green Lantern in cineplexes nationwide.

Meanwhile, Reynolds has also become well-known on account of his love interests, having maintained a long-term relationship with fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette. In 2008 he married Scarlett Johansson; the  pair was instantly one of Hollywood’s most buzzed-about (and watched) couples, although they would divorce a few years later. He is now reportedly dating actress Blake Lively.

Audiences will get to see him in Safe House opposite Denzel Washington next year; after that both he and Jeff Bridges will play deceased cops in search of their killers in the film Rest In Peace Department. Nor does there seem to be much this actor can’t do. He exudes charm and affability (with that comfy George Clooney thing working — and he seems like someone who could easily host things, too). He can be witheringly funny. He can work a tearjerker. And he can also run, jump and scale buildings if need be – wearing tights. In fact, if anything Hollwyood may be unsure about where to pigeonhole Ryan Reynolds. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. No matter how they slice it, we’re still the beneficiaries of a whopping talent. Is Ryan Reynolds your Favorite Movie Star? Let us know what you think about him and have a wonderful holiday.

Today’s poll:

I really liked The Proposal…but my MOST favorite of his films is “Definitely, Maybe” – with the enormously talented child star, Amanda Breslin. I love that movie!

  5. shannon says:

I am sure Ryan is a good person and all, but he seems to always be the same, whatever role he plays. There seems to be something he can’t crack through and become someone else. Maybe if he took some risks and failed he might loose the veneered look. I guess I did like him in Adventureland.

  6. Julie says:

The Proposal…I have to watch it every time it comes on. I love he and Sandra Bullock together.
