Today’s the day – as you read this your truly will be (or will have been) at the People’s Choice Awards Nominations Press Conference in Beverly Hills, California. Also present? PCA Host Kaley Cuoco, along with Julianne Hough, Joe Jonas, Jennifer Morrison, Sharon Osbourne and Busy Philipps and Elisha Cuthbert. They’re announcing the 2012 nominees, who will then compete for the spotlight on our January 11th show. You can of course also follow today’s activities on Twitter, so check out the nominees!
Now I know we’re not a sports organization, and I’m anything but a sports writer, but we do pay attention to the passing of beloved cultural icons (like Andy Rooney). So today, I think we should mention the fact that longtime boxing champ (and cultural icon) Joe Frazier has died. Having beaten Muhammad Ali for the Heavyweight Championship at Madison Square Garden in 1971, the two men endured a lifelong and very personal rivalry. “Smokin’ Joe” battled “The Greatest” on three occasions, most famously the “Thrilla in Manilla” in 1975. Frazier passed away last night of liver cancer, and remains of course one of boxing’s true legends.
Meanwhile, we haven’t talked too much about Glee this season. As someone who’s been watching since the beginning, I still think it’s very entertaining stuff with kids who are beyond talented. I know plenty of people however, who feel the show has gotten too preachy, too message-driven, and too self-serious. This is fair. On the other hand, I tend to feel that’s natural when a once-groundbreaking show matures, and that perhaps viewers are just knowing what to expect. Which may make it seem repetitive. Or at least not-so-groundbreaking. But not this week – I’m pretty sure tonight’s “First Time” episode will generate more than a little controversy with its sexually explicit nature and all. What do you think? Will you tune in? Do you think subject matter like this belongs on network TV (or on cable, as some have argued)? Let us know your opinion.
And finally, let’s look at something totally fluffy and fun. Dancing With The Stars is coming down to the wire – 5 couples left. Now, since JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff got two perfect scores last night, it’s unlikely that the pair will be sent packing. That said, please let us know who you think will get Pink- Slipped tonight.
Today’s poll:
Which of these Dancing With The Stars pairs do you think will go home tonight, mirror-ball free?
1) Maks and Hope
2) Rob and Cheryl
3) Nancy and Tristan
4) Ricki and Derek

How come your poll for DWTS doesn’t have JR and Karina, I bet they end up in first despite the judges biased scoring.
I Feel the same way somebody from Hawaii Five O, should have won!!!!!!
I was a bit disappointed in the first few episodes of Glee season 3, it felt rushed, especially Blaine’s decision to leave the Warblers…and a few other things as well, but I have to say that the last episode was brilliant, I was clued to the screen! It was perfect! I hope it only gets better from here. CAS – South-Africa

I cannot believe that neither Hawaii Five-0 nor any of the cast, especially Alex O’Loughlin, was not nominated.
