Friday. The weekend’s finally here. Summer? Approaching. Summer movies? Also enroute. (Iron Man 2 kicked everything off…before too long we‘ll get to your Persian Princes, your Toy Stories, those Karate Kids & you guessed it: the Eclipsing Vampires & Werewolves. They’ll be here June 30th. So sit tight). Before we talk films though, thanks for your feedback yesterday. Sounds like most of you are more than ready to check out some fresh TV shows – nobody seems remotely broken up over/nostalgic about the legion of network TV cancellations.
Now, to movies. Will you go see Shrek Forever After? I can tell you that many people will. This may – or may not — be the Big Green Guy’s final bow — in 3-D no less (although you know what they’re saying: “it’s not ogre til it’s ogre”). Once again it stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz & Eddie Murphy – only now we also have guest voiceover turns from Jane Lynch and Jon Hamm. Because even animation is getting cool. I suspect this’ll be a very popular summer movie indeed. Won’t do IM2 numbers, but will linger. And the Weezer music doesn’t hurt (look what another Shrek tune — Hallelujah — did for Lee DeWyze!) Then we have another big entry in the summer movie stakes – MacGruber. This stars Will Forte and it’s based on a Saturday Night Live sketch ( in and of itself based on MacGyver). Does it feel like a one-trick-pony? Totally. Will that stop people from going – especially with Kristen Wiig (comedy’s new IT girl) plus Val Kilmer as a baddie named something we cannot print in this blog? Absolutely not. (Plus we have more SNL-ish movies coming along this summer – one that springs to mind is Grown Ups with Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock etc, …so they’re hoping to get everyone’s favorite funny SNL guys in the same place at the same time. Might work. But that too, is later). The point about MacGruber is, they’re saying it’s the funniest SNL movie since Wayne’s World. Which got me thinking. Do you suppose it is? Did someone I know say it or did I read it on a billboard? Hmm. So with this in mind, let’s look back at some of the other highly-touted SNL-sketch-to-movie movies. Voice your choice in today’s featured poll and let us know which one of these is your favorite:
1) The Blues Brothers
2) Wayne’s World
3) Superstar
4) The Ladies Man

Val Kilmer’s movie are almost always a box office hit. He is one of the best action actors i know,,~
The Saint is one of Val Kilmer’s best film ever, i love his role on that movie,*”
i love Val Kilmer in the movie The Saint, probably one of his greatest performance*;*
Val Kilmer is quite an old man today but he is still a great actor and handsome guy.;~*
A tip to save some funds when enjoying films it that instead of heading to the movies on a busy weekend consider leasing your dvds. The regular fee to lease a DVD is a lot less than half the cost of just one movie ticket at your standard movie theater. Another advantage is that you may possibly lease around 4 movies from your local video shop for the very same cost as 2 tickets at the movie theater.
Thanks for the article. It was a really good read..
