Iron Man 2 – Who’s Your Favorite Superhero?

It’s Thursday. We’re all about a big new movie today,  but first — did anyone catch Idol? That poor kid. It seems teen sensation Aaron Kelly, in what many feel was a surprising twist, was bounced from the running. Did you think it was going to be someone else? (I did.) Now we have just four left – Crystal, Lee, Michael & Casey. More on them later.

Okay, let’s talk flicks.  Because tomorrow a huge movie’s opening…and  if you, your kids, your friends’ kids & your friends’ kids’ kids aren’t already talking about it, they probably will be.  See, with Iron Man 2, we witness the advent of  the summer blockbuster (of which there will be several – see under:  Crowe, R. , Gyllenhaal, J., Pattinson, R., Jolie, A., Hanks, T. for more info). Now this is cool because, if you like Robert Downey Jr. (and we do) he is now a certifiable action hero. Not always the case, and one of the reasons we love Iron Man is that it wasn’t originally expected to be the tremendous hit it was. Oh sure, they knew the kids would go because it’s a beloved comic – but nobody predicted the massive fan base it – and its main (iron)man – would attract.  In fact, Downey’s always been popular, but he’s also had a rough time of it; this isn’t a comeback really, but there’s something appealing about an actor having success in an entirely new arena. An arena traditionally dominated by the exact same people, summer after summer. Naturally they’ve raised expectations for IM2 – and this means a bigger, flashier cast. They’ve got Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, & Don Cheadle among others, and thus now the question is not “Big opening weekend?” but “How big an opening weekend?” As in, will this be one for the record books? It could be. Plus, even if the movie doesn’t get great reviews it’ll still sell tix. With a killer cast and super high-tech effects, it’s a no- brainer. And in the end, isn’t it all about forgetting where we are for two hours and eating popcorn? With this in mind, let’s look at some other comic book characters who have made the (tall building-ed) leap to the big screen. Here are four of the biggest. Voice your choice in today’s featured poll and tell which of these page-to-screen heroes is your favorite?

1)    Spiderman

2)    Wolverine

3)    Batman

4)    Superman
