Oscar Nominations Are Here!

Happy Tuesday…the dust has settled on the Grammys and the consensus is that Elton John & Lady Gaga had it going on, and that perhaps Taylor &  Stevie should have sat out their duet  (but they both have lots of their own Grammys so they’ll be fine).Today’s big news? Oscar nominations are out. Here goes: Best Actress: Streep,  Mirren, Mulligan, Sidibe, Bullock. Best Actor: Clooney, Firth, Bridges, Freeman, Renner.  Best Supporting Actor: Damon, Harrelson, Plummer, Tucci, Waltz. Best Supporting Actress: Cruz, Farmiga, Kendrick, Gyllenhaal, Monique. Best Picture: Up In The Air, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Precious, A Serious Man, The Blind Side, Inglourious Basterds, Up, District 9, An Education. So what do you think? Are there  Shocking Shutouts?  Insane Additions? Does the Academy want to rethink its new 10-movie Best Picture category?  Not sure, although this probably means we’ll all be subjected to twice the TV commercials announcing ominously that such and such  picture was nominated for eleven Academy Awards.  Also, one of the great old chestnuts of American entertainment bowed again – the Miss America Pageant. This year Rush Limbaugh was a judge, and Caressa Cameron – AKA Miss Virginia – took the crown. The Runner Up was Miss California, Kristy Cavinder.  Perhaps you missed this year’s pageant (and lots of people did – it used to be a TV staple before it switched channels/moved locales/changed hosts/other pageants got glitzier/people stopped caring). Still, there are lots of former beauty queens working in entertainment today, many familiar faces who may not have been crowned – but who certainly competed in the circuit. As in “Ugly Betty”’s  Vanessa Williams. But she’s obvious, so let’s toss out a few ladies with pageant-based pasts you may not have known about. Voice your choice in today’s featured poll and tell us which of these former beauty queens is your favorite.

1)    Halle Berry

2)    Diane Sawyer

3)    Delta Burke

4)    Sharon Stone

Shocking shut-outs, yes, why was Johnny Dellinger ( Johnny Depp ) in Public Enemies not even considered for an award?
Another movie that was not mentioned, ” All the Pretty Horses ‘ with Matt Damon acting in this most inspiring movie? Please consider these two movies, Johnny Dellinger in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp and Matt Damon in All the Pretty Horses. Thank you ever so much.
