More “Modern”, “Cougars”, “Middle” – What About Conan?

It’s Wednesday…if you’re just now getting used to some of the new prime time shows, ABC has  good news for you: they’ve decided to renew Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle.  Now, Scrubs, Better Off Ted and Ugly Betty remain up in the air, which is a great place if you’re George Clooney, but not so fun if you’re a quirky newcomer or worse, a once-very-hot television show.  Speaking of how nice it would be to be George Clooney, he’s likely to have a big day this coming Sunday at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards. (That’s the one where the guests are all sitting at tables in a ballroom getting plastered, with lots of chatty banter;  this year it’ll be hosted by Ricky Gervais so there’s a 95% chance the whole thing will be funny).  In more TV news, NBC’s  late night spectacle marches on and and it’s not looking like a salvageable situation. Particularly since Conan O’Brien has now announced in a statement that oh thanks, but no thanks will he follow Jay Leno and begin his show at 12:05 am.  He’s putting his foot down, and of course all the shuffling would probably put Jimmy Fallon in some early morning time slot himself.  Then Jerry Seinfeld even got involved in the discussions.  So here’s the thing.  NBC is saying that they don’t want to lose all three men, but that prime time Leno is a terrible idea. Do you agree? Was the show awful? This  got me thinking, which naturally led me to envision a poll.  So NBC is trying very hard NOT to lose either Jay, Conan, or Jimmy.  But in the have-your-cake-and-eat-it-department, let’s say, for the purposes of this poll, that they could only have one guy doing the Tonight Show.  In its regular time.  The others would have to go elsewhere. Now voice your choice in today’s featured poll and tell us, if NBC could only put ONE guy on at 11:35, who would be your favorite?

1) Jay Leno

2) Conan O’Brien

3) Jimmy Fallon

4) Jerry Seinfeld

If it’s true and Leno was aware of this way back in 2004 and agreed to it, then Conan is being treated very unfairly to say the least. What ever happened to Leno’s retiring early to spend more time with his wife and cars? I hope Conan O’Brien the best in whatever he does. He’s a really decent man and a great performer in his own genre. I’m sure he will be fine. Will I watch Leno anymore? I really don’t know. Haven’t watched him since he left the Tonight Show. His new show was boring as far as I was concerned and I really resented him taking up that time slot. Missed the shows I used to regularly watch all week, then watched the news and after that I could watch Leno, or Letterman and still enjoy Conan’s show if I chose. Now, it is all messed up. Thanks a pant load NBC!

Let me get this straight: First Leno agrees five years ago to give up the Tonight Show. NBC begs Conan to hang on for five years, and you’ll get the Tonight Show. Leno leaves, Conan takes over, and everything is copasetic. But wait! Leno isn’t through yet! NBC gives him the prime time hour usually reserved for our favorite dramas! He fails! He cries! NBC says “Don’t worry, Jay. We’ll just push Conan back 30 minutes — we’re sure he won’t mind — and put you in there.” Sorry, Jay, Conan DOES mind and I don’t blame him. Your day is over, Jay. Be the better man for it and go do standup.

  5. Loves Leno O’berin not so much. However I think both should be replaced by Angela(chocolatehilton)Warner.
It would get things rollin on NBC.

What ya think America? I know Canda’s behind Me. Right Canada? Yeah!

Of all of the new shows within the last two years, The Middle consistently makes me laugh out loud more than any other show, unless maybe it’s Better Off Ted. I hope that Ted is renewed–it’s not a formulaic comedy–maybe that’s why it’s still up-in-the-air for renewal.
