Brittany Murphy 1977-2009

Brittany MurphyHappy Monday, and here’s to a great start on your Christmas week. Hope you’re enjoying various  pre-Holiday festivities and remember, The People’s Choice Awards are less than three weeks away.  Did you vote for your favorite new TV shows? There’s still time, so make your vote count! We have two big entertainment stories from this weekend; first up, Hollywood is still reeling from the tragic news of actress Brittany Murphy’s shocking death yesterday. The 32 -year old star of Clueless,  8-Mile and Girl, Interrupted (among others)  succumbed to cardiac arrest at home in Los Angeles, leaving behind a husband, a mother and millions of devoted fans. This young actress, singer and voice-over artist (she was the voice of King of The Hill’s Luanne Platter for more than 230 episodes)  will be sorely missed. Also making headlines this past weekend was the movie Avatar, which triumphed at the box office, bringing in a massive $73 million bucks. That’s nothing to sneeze at, and curiously, in an industry that’s obsessed with statistics & records, even Avatar set a record: it is, according to Box Office Mojo: “the highest-grossing opening ever for a movie that’s neither a sequel, a remake nor a direct adaptation (though others had greater attendance)”. So there’s a big win and a little distinction for director James Cameron, who’s probably in no way surprised that his new blue movie did such boffo business. So we know that December dollars at the movies are typically very large, which of course made me even more curious, becuase if Avatar wasn’t the biggest opening, then what was? So I located the 4 movies that were (historically)  the biggest and best box office successes in the month of December. Now voice your choice in today’s featured poll and let us know which of these December blockbusters is your favorite…

1) I Am Legend (2007)

2) Avatar (2009)

3) LOTR: The Return of the King (2003)

4) The Chronicles of Narnia (2005)

How is this the people’s choice if we can’t vote?? Like most awards shows, this makes it seemed a bit on the “rigged” side. I’ve been on this site for a few weeks now and have been given the same 3 categories to vote everytime I log in. The entire thing should be open the entire voting time!!!
