Britney Spears "Womanizer" video
MTV announced the nomineees for their annual Video Music Awards which will air on September 13th with host Russell Brand.
The nominees for Video of the Year are as follows:
“Love Lockdown” by Kanye West
“Poker Face” by Lady Gaga
“Single Ladies” by Beyonce
“We Made You” by Eminem
“Womanizer” by Britney Spears
I dig Kanye and Eminem is much as the next guy, but I don’t think either one of them stands a chance against these ladies.
The “Single Ladies” video proved that Beyonce is the most talented human being on the planet; it was so ubiquitous that it inspired countless parodies on YouTube. ”Womanizer” marked a triumphant comeback for Britney as she struggled to maintain pop culture relevance. And let’s face it: It’s Lady Gaga’s world and we just live in it. Her dominance of the airwaves in 2009 makes it hard to remember what the world was like before she burst onto the scene.

First off, I was pleased with majority of the nominees for this year’s VMAs. I felt Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” deserved a little more attention, but it’s an inspirational-type song and this is MTV we’re talking about, so I’m not surprised.
I agree that the top prize is probably going to one of the three ladies, who all had great success this past year. Eminem and Kanye West both had big hits this year as well, but I feel their videos may not be as mainstream as the other three, therefore hurting their chances at winning.
Before placing my votes, I will re-watch all the videos to vote on the ones that I think truly deserve the top prize. However, upon first reading the list of nominees for Video of the Year, I think I will have to give my vote to “Poker Face.” Beyonce’s video was a world-wide hit, but I, personally, think Lady Gaga ushered in a new era of “guilty-pleasure” pop this year that was addictive yet also musically genius (Why else would her first three singles go #1?). For her trailblazing path up the charts, she will score my vote.
