I know I’m not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but is it okay to judge a movie by its poster?

The promotional posters for today’s three major releases couldn’t be more different; this weekend promises to have something for everyone.

The poster for G-Force features an adorable guinea pig clad in high tech spy gear. The film features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Jon Favreau, Penelope Cruz, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan. It promises to be good clean fun for the whole family. What’s not to love?

On the other end of the spectrum is the poster for Orphan. Creepy! I’m already having nightmares and I haven’t even seen the film. Isabelle Fuhrman plays the title character who gets adopted by a couple played by Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Fermiga. One look at her scary expression on the poster is enough to tell you that things won’t be going well for this new family.

And then there’s The Ugly Truth, a rom-com starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. They’re both holding paper hearts on the poster; hers is up near her head, his is down by his man parts, demonstrating how the different sexes approach love and lust. I think I know how this “opposites attract” tale is going to turn out, but it won’t keep me from going to the multiplex.

Which movie are you most likely to see this weekend? Voice your choice in today’s poll. And let’s see if we can, indeed, judge a movie by its poster.
