The 15th Annual Essence Musical Festival will take place July 3 – 5 in New Orleans. In addition to current favorites like Ne-Yo, Maze, John Legend and Beyonce, the festival will be featuring three very welcome comebacks: Anita Baker, En Vogue and Maxwell.
I’m tempted to hop on a plane to the Big Easy to see these talented singers. I’ve missed them.
I still get chills when I hear Anita Baker croon “Sweet Love” or “You Bring Me Joy.” Her deep, soulful voice takes me back to the days of her Rapture CD; it’s been over twenty years since that record sold 8 million copies and earned Baker two Grammy Awards. I need a fix of Anita, stat!
What would the ’90s have sounded like if it weren’t for the sexy quartet En Vogue? Would others have filled the void of harmonic R&B ["My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It")] and rocking feminist anthems (“Free Your Mind”)? Perhaps. But any other divas wouldn’t have been as funky.
Eight year’s have passed since Maxwell’s last cd release, Now, but his new disc will drop on July 7th. BLACKsummers’night will be the first of a trilogy of albums; I can’t wait to hear his latest output. Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite was one of the sexiest records I’ve ever heard; here’s hoping that Maxwell brings sexy back.

While I’m not really a fan of any of these artists, I read a follow-up article about this festival in the USA Today, and, if this is the kind of music you like, it certainly seemed like a fun event. Heck, I’m a sucker for all music festivals.
Essence Music Festival has came and went and it was everything. From the martinis at the Motions Bond Over Beauty event to the music and and food , i loved it all.. count me in for next year.
En Vogue…HANDS AND FEET DOWN!!! The sexiest chicks this side of grown and sexy! I would STILL kill for a kiss on the cheek from ANY one of em…especially Dawn! OH MY DAWN…the nights in the dorm room with my fellow pledges picking which one we loved most…always Dawn…LOL
