SciFi Channel becoming SyFy

On July 7th, the SciFi Channel will officially become SyFy in of a major rebranding effort that will include the new tagline, “Imagine Greater.”

The new name keeps the channel’s phonetic roots but gives them the freedom to broaden their programming and break away from the perception that they’re all about aliens and spaceships. The new SyFy won’t abandon science fiction, but they’ll expand their content in genres such as fantasy, paranormal, reality, mystery, action and adventure. Sounds good to me.

When the People’s Choice Awards introduced the new category of Favorite SciFi show two years ago, all three nominees aired on the SciFi ChannelBattlestar Galactica, Doctor Who and Stargate Atlantis. The People chose Stargate Atlantis as their favorite.

Plenty of new shows are on the horizon, but we want to know what’s your favorite series currently playing on the channel: Ghost Hunters, Moonlight, or Primeval. Voice your choice in today’s featured poll. And keep tuning in to see how the channel evolves. This could be fun.

I would like to see other shows like One Step Beyond…Night Gallery etc…besides Twilight Zone and Outer Limits all the time. I love the Sci-Fi channel just the way it is, almost! There are alot of Sci-Fi movies that have never been shown on this channel……Time to start showing different ones more often.

LOL I have to agree – they HAD the brand they could do withit anything they wanted. This is just the new person justifying the big expense and paycheck to show they made a difference (that wasnt needed). they already have added the additional shows that took them beyond aliens and monsters monsters monsters. I love seeing the old sci fi shows there again.

Love the Sci-Fi channel, but I think the “rebranding” is absolute rubbish.
Who comes up with these ridiculous ideas?
