Michael Douglas
The American Film Institute bestowed Michael Douglas with their 37th Annual Lifetime Achievement Award in Los Angeles last night. The ceremony will air on TV Land on July 19th.
Douglas has had an illustrious career and is certainly deserving of the accolade. He won his first Oscar at age 30 as producer of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (while starring on the the TV series The Streets of San Francisco with Karl Malden.) He is Hollywood royalty, son of Golden Globe winner Kirk Douglas and husband to Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones.
But he’s best known for his leading man roles in numerous hit movies from the ’80s and ’90s. Who can forget the films in which he co-starred with Kathleen Turner: Romancing the Stone, The Jewel of the Nile and The War of the Roses? How about the scary suspense of Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct? And let’s not ingore his Oscar winning performance in Wall Street or his amazing depiction of the title role in The American President.
