Spike TV has acquired the basic cable rights to HBO’s Entourage. Starting in January 2010, Spike will begin airing the first five seasons of the comedy. Clearly one of the biggest benefits will be exposing the series to fans who don’t currently spring for HBO. As an HBO subscriber and self-proclaimed Entourage fan, I’ll be tuning in to see how they edit the show to remove the naughty bits that won’t make the transition from premium to basic cable.

Remember when Sex and the City first started airing on TBS? I would watch the show and make mental notes of where they’d removed nudity, profanity, and entire plotlines that might make a basic cable viewer squirm. Now the boys of Entourage will get their turn to go through the cleansing process. Will they bring Jerry Ferrara back to the editing room to loop the word “shucks” where his character Turtle was clearly saying something else? Will Kevin Dillon’s Drama start hanging out at juice bars instead of strip clubs? How will Kevin Connolly’s “E” spar with Adrian Grenier’s Vince when all the dirty words are removed? And I can’t even begin to think of how Jeremy Piven’s Ari will make the transition. Let’s all watch and see what happens.

In the meantime, voice your choice and let us know who’s your favorite member of Vince’s entourage in today’s featured poll.
